PokéStop can be used with no cards in the deck but the game hangs

Somehow, the game allows you to use PokéStop while you have no cards in your deck, but the game then doesn't know what to do. My opponent's turn was soon because the time ran out.

The section of the battle log where I had "used" PokéStop didn't record that fact. (I don't yet want to post the full battle log due to the space needed for that.)
