No VPN and it was working fine yesterday though and I've changed nothing, especially anything to do with firewalls. I've tried turn all my firewalls off as a test and still get the same thing

Going back to the bench resets the attack. It's the same thing with Mew Vmax, so using the escape rope and sending it back to the bench will have reset the first attacker, allowing them to use it 2 turns in a row.
