Char vs Cherry (Part Two of Two)

Starting this part with Char!

"Dragon Claw," Vince shouts immediately. Cherry's claws glow bright blue as she pushes off the ground quickly. As usual, Izzy waits until last second to counter.  

"Thunder Punch," he commands right as Cherry is about to slash me. I clench my first tightly, electricity covering it. I swing it upward, meeting Cherry's downward swipe. We push against each other, both of us trying to over power the other. Eventually, our close to equal strength causes small explosion between us, but Cherry gets blown back a bit while I stand my ground.  

"That's nothing," Vince shouts, Cherry shaking her head and locking back in. "Dragon Tail!" 

Cherry pushes off the ground. Once at a certain height, she begins flipping down at me. Again, Izzy waits until she's just about to hit me before her gives me a command. 

"Slide to the right," he says simply and I obey immediately, Cherry crashing into the ground. "Now use Thunder Punch!" 

I swing another powerful fist of sparks at Cherry as she bounces off the ground. I hit her straight in the gut, landing a critical hit. She coughs in surprise as she is sent flying across the field. Vince grinds his teeth with panic.  

"Don't let that get to you, we'll just keep a bit of distance," he yells to Cherry, who staggers to her feet and quickly recovers. "Air Slash!" 

Cherry flaps her wings powerfully, sending waves of sharp air flying at me. "Fire Blast," Izzy tells me, sounding bored with the battle. I take a deep breath, releasing it with a giant ball of fire. It collides with the Air Slash, canceling each other out in a small explosion.  

Cherry flies through the dust cloud, closing in on me before I can register what's happening. "Thunder Punch," Vince commands her. She pulls her claw back, closing it tightly as electricity covers it. Izzy tries to command a counter but it's too late. Cherry's fist smashes into my chin with an uppercut, sending me soaring through the air and crashing into the ground.  

"Nice move," Izzy exclaims, and I get up and glare at him. He chuckles with a shrug. "It was, though. A smart strategy using the explosion as a cover to approach is when we don't expect. Might as well give them a little praise before they take an embarrassing loss." 

I growl and roll my eyes. There's that arrogance that annoys me. I turn back to the opponents, who are staring at me with that "I'm better than you" expression. I can feel my doubt start to rise, but Izzy's voice cuts it off. "Dragon Rush!" 

I howl as I kick myself off the ground, bright blue energy covering my body as I soar towards my target. "Catch it," Vince shouts, and right as I'm about to crash into her Cherry sticks her claws out, grabbing my wings and holding me back. She chuckles proudly as I hang in the air, unable to move. Her confident smile disappears when Izzy starts laughing.  

"Y'all think you achieved something, don't y'all," he shouts with question, the amusement in his voice clear. When Vince nods, he laughs again. "That's funny, because from my perspective y'all just screwed up! Let me explain." 

Vince changes his posture, moving most of his weight to his right leg and crosses his arms, looking at Izzy expectantly. Izzy holds up his hand. "Well let's see. You've used Dragon Claw, Dragon Tail, Air Slash, and Thunder Punch," he says, counting on his fingers as he goes. "That's all four of your moves and all of them are useless in the position we are in. I mean, you could try for an Air Slash, but it would be hard to hit like this. However, I have used Thunder Punch, Dragon Rush, and, oh," Izzy exclaims with fake surprise as he reaches his third finger. "Fire Blast. With our placement Char's face is in the perfect spot for maximum damage!" 

I sigh and roll my eyes. I hate when he does his explanation thing. Like, come on, bro! Just say for me to use Fire Blast! They'll be able to piece it together themselves. I inhale deeply, and with the exhale come a giant ball of flames, which hits Cherry straight in the face. She let's go of me, stumbling backwards. Vince growls with annoyance.  

"Yeah? Well that doesn't matter! We weren't going at our best, yet," Vince shouts, holding his Key Stone glove up and tapping it. Strands of energy come off of it and attach to Cherry's bow, who starts howling with strength. She begins to glow as if she's evolving, her features changing as she gets a third horn and her wings tear up. When the light disappears a Mega Charizard Y is standing in front of me. 

Perspective change! Back to the champ! 

"So you're finally actually going to give us a challenge," I ask, a small bit of excitement rushing through me. "I'll be honest, I've been pretty bored with this so please do something impressive." 

Vince looks completely shocked by that, which make me chuckle. Char, though, looks back at me with concern, an expression I'll never get used to seeing from it. I give a small smile and a thumbs up. It nods and turns its attention back to the battle.  

"You may be arrogant right now," Vince declares, "but I'm gonna wipe that smug smirk off your face when you see our power!"  

I roll my eyes. Not the first time somebody has told me that. "Whatever helps you sleep at night," I respond, and Vince's eye begins to twitch. 

"Air Slash," Vince commands, and Cherry flaps hee giant wings, pushing sharp blades of air at Char. 

"Fire Blast," I say with a sigh. Char take in a quick, deep breath and spits out with a large fire ball. Once again, the two moves collide, sending smoke everywhere. "Now Thunder Punch." 

Char pulls its fist back, which an incoming Cherry did not expect as she tries to take us off guard again. Char punches her straight in the face, sending her flying back to Vince, who just looks flat out annoyed.  

"That won't get us twice," I tell him, waving my finger with a no. Char nods in agreement, growling an "uh-huh!" 

"That's fine," Vince shouts, sounding like he's trying to convince himself rather than us. "Dragon Tail!" 

Cherry soars at Char, much quicker than I expected. I try to get in a Thunder Punch, but Cherry had already swung her tail, knocking back Char. It staggers to its feet, groaning lightly. I would be concerned, but this is Char. It might be questioning itself right now, but I know for a fact it can do this. It's never failed me before and it won't start now.  

"You know, you've got me feeling a bit rude," I say once Char is fully up again. "You were nice enough to go all out against us and we've barely even been trying," I tell him as I pull out my necklace with a Key Stone. "Allow me to fix that!" 

I tap the stone, causing it to sparkle with energy. Strings of bright red light go and connect to Char's Mega Stone ring, which sends blue light back to my stone. Our colors combine into purple as Char glows with Mega power. It's wings become shredded and blue flame burst from its mouth. Once the light dies away, it reveals Mega Charizard X, standing tall with authority and strength. Char glares at our opponents, who are shaking slightly. But then, a realization seems to dawn on Vince and he begins to laugh. 

"What a foolish decision," he remarks. He looks disappointed when I don't give a reaction, but continues anyways. "Char is now a Dragon type, and, as you already know, two of Cherry's moves are Dragon type, meaning we have the advantage!" 

I chuckle at his arrogance. "If you think a battle's ending can be determined strictly by the type match up then you've got a surprise coming," I tell him, smiling confidently at Char, who roars with agreement.  

"You're the one that's about to be surprised," Vince says, Cherry growling with a nod. "Dragon Claw!" 

Cherry flies to Char with immense speed, closing the distance in the blink of an eye. I wait until right before she swings to say something.  

"Thunder Punch," I command, and just like at the beginning of the match, their attacks collide and they struggle as each one fights for the advantage. However, unlike in the beginning of the match, Char overpowers Cherry and its fist finally pushed past her claw and into her chest, knocking her back across the field. I see Char's confident smile and know all its doubts are gone.  

Vince growls with annoyance as Cherry struggles back to her feet. "We're not going to lose! Dragon Tail!" 

Again, Cherry pushes off the ground, approaching Char quickly. Once close enough, she flips and begins to slam her tail on Char. "There's our opportunity! Catch it," I shout to Char, who let's the tail smash into it, taking the hit, but it now has Cherry in it's grasp. I smirk, ready to end this.  

Wrapping things up with Char! 

I grunt as Cherry tries to wiggle free. I won't let go. I know Izzy's ready to finish this and I'm not gonna mess it up. I pull her to me and wrap my arms around her stomach tightly, trapping her arms with it and pressing her wings against me, practically immobilizing her.  

"Great work, Char," Izzy shouts from behind me and I smile proudly. "Now fly high into the sky!" 

I push off the ground, taking me and and Cherry into the air. She continues to struggle against me, but I just tighten my grip. Once I reach a certain height, I begin to spin  

"That's right, Char," Izzy shouts from below. "You know what's going on!" 

Me and Izzy still haven't used our last attack. To everyone else, it seems like we're about to use Seismic Toss, but that's not what's going on. I'm just making Cherry dizzy.  

"Release her," Izzy commands and I let go of her, letting gravity take her towards the ground. Too unbalanced to fly, Cherry flops around in the sky. 

"Wrap this up," Izzy shout, and I begin concentrating power in my tail. "Use," tiny pebbles begin growing at my tail. "Rock," these pebbles become stones. "Slide!" 

As Izzy finishes his command my stones become boulders, which I flip and launch at Cherry, who's still to dizzy to dodge and takes the hit directly.  

"No," Vince shouts as Cherry crashes into the ground, the boulders smashing her further. As I land, my body shines, the Mega Evolution leaving me, signaling the end of the match.  

Out of nowhere Izzy leaps onto my back, laughing and smiling wide with pride. "Told you you were the best," he says to me, causing me to share his smile.  

Vince and Cherry approaches us. Vince looks down at Izzy and sighs. "People really ain't kidding when they say you're the best," he says, and Izzy shakes his head.  

"Nah I'm only half of it," he says, tapping me on the chest. "We're the best." 

Vince chuckles and nods. "Exactly right," he says, causing my smile to increase in size. Izzy climbs off my back and handshakes Vince. 

Cherry offers her fist to me. "Good game," she growls and I nod, meeting her fist. 

"Yeah," I growl back, smiling. She smiles back and returns to her trainer's side. I look down at Izzy and see him giving me a look of pure joy and admiration. I return the look, truly thankful for Izzy and all that he does for me.  

It's funny, because he says I'm strong but that's only true because he gives me strength. 

So this was supposed to be a one shot but it went over the Forum’s character limit and I had to divide it into two. 

So this is my first time writing with a theme. 

I’ve read about it in school and I know how to identify themes but I’ve never actually done it. 

The theme was supposed to be like a positive crowd will get you farther and to believe in yourself and you’ll do your best. 

Something like that. 

I don’t know if I delivered it properly, but that’s what I was kind of aiming for. 

Again, new to this. 

In case anyone was wondering this is the same Izzy as in my Hisui story but this does not actually connect to that story. 

I wrote this because I’m losing interest in my other two stories. 

I’m not quitting them! 

I will finish! 

But this always happens. 

I’ll start a writing project, it’ll be going great, and then I just drop it. 

I figured if I make some stand alones it’ll get me back into my creative mood and I’ll finish my others, so there may be more things like this coming.
