How common is a ‘multiple charmander / charizard’ deck in TCG Live?

Relatively new player here.

In about one-third to one-half of the TCG Live ranked battles I’ve played this week, I’ve seen the following human deck setup:

  • multiple charmanders (3-4 in play)
  • lots of fire energy cards
  • trainer cards to select evolved cards (I.e. charizard)
  • then they quickly evolve 1-2 to chatizard, who destroys my deck.

It’s a clever strategy, but I’m surprised by ‘how often’ I’ve seen it.

I’ve changed my deck to include a couple of water-types (an early-game attempt to beat charmander and charmelian), plus a leaf-type Ogerpon (a late-game attempt to beat charizards) - but it’s not working great.

QUESTION - how common is this as a deck in TCG Online? Is this oncersation a surprise, or is it a well-known beginner ‘meta’ strategy?

Thanks!

I've played Tera Charizard since I downloaded the online TCG and lose plenty to other decks that see more of. Tera Teal Ogerpon EX and Lillie's Clefairy EX pop way more. I made a post in general discussion about the Charizard hate. I'll post my decklist here too so you guys can make strategies. The meta is what it is.

Charmander x4. Tera Charizard EX x3

    Charmeleon x2. Chi-Yu EX x2

    Kangaskhan EX x2 Torkoal x2

    Magearna x2. Reshiram EX x2

    Tera Orb x2. Nemona x3

    Rare Candy x3. Max Rod

Super Rod x2. Energy Retrieval x2

    Earthen Vessel x2. Arven x2

    Bravery Charm x2 Boss's Orders x3

    Switch x3. Iona x2

That's an interesting deck. As a very new player to the TCG, is there a way to buy specific cards in the shop or is it all randomized Booster packs and starter decks and stuff?

such a irritating deck to deal with, right now I'm trying out Venusaur ex deck to try and beat it but the only time I've ever been able to do it is with a ethens deck

    Ethens Adventure x 4

    Arven x 3

    Cyndaquil x 4

    quilava x 4

    typhlosion x 3

    ho-oh x 2

    monkeydory x 2

try these pokemon out and mess around with your trainers a bit, it's still hard and you'll need to play perfectly but when you pull it off it's so satisfying
