How does Rare Candy work? Please be specific.

I'm sorry if this has been asked before. I checked the first 5 pages and didn't see any posts about this but if I missed it, point me in the right direction.

I have had a few matches now & I am grasping the basics, except for one card. Rare Candy. For starters sometimes this card allows me to skip the middle stage of an evolution and sometimes it will not work at all.

I just had a match where I had my Basic starter on the field from the previous turn(PREVIOUS TURN) & I used Ultra Ball to search for my 3rd form. Rare Candy was lit up to use for my 2nd stage, but I wanted the 3rd. My hand was actually big enough I was able to keep both the mid stage and Rare candy along with the 3rd stage. Yet I after the search I was unable to activate the Rare Candy for either of them.

I have used the Ultra Ball in combination with a card called the Nest Ball in the same turn. Rare Candy, Nest Ball and Ultra Ball are all the same card type and Rare Candy does not state it must be first or has any other restrictions. Neither does the Ultra Ball.

So what am I not understanding here?

"Rare Candy was lit up to use for my 2nd stage, but I wanted the 3rd"

What does this mean. There is no "third stage" in the game. pokemon come in basic, stage 1, and stage 2. Rare candy lets you skip the stage 1 and play a stage 2 onto the basic.

Sorry I confused you. I meant 3rd form. Aka stage 2. I'm fairly new to the game but I have always referred to the 3rd form as stage so I slipped up in my above comment. In this case its a Charizard Ex deck for current Standard.

I had Charmeleon, Ultra Ball and Rare Candy in my hand and searched out my Char Ex. Kept both Charmeleon and Rare Candy in my hand & had the basic Charmander on field from the previous turn, cause I drew the Ultra Ball for turn. But after using the Ultra ball I could no longer evolve with either Charmeleon or use the Rare Candy for Zard.

I have played multiple games now and this was an isolated incident. Since this game earlier I have been able to use Rare Candy while also using the Ultra Ball. So I don't understand why this happened. Is it a bug or glitch in the game?

I don't have a replay. Opponent had a Hitmonlee or Chan on field. I forget which this was a few hours ago and have played multiple matches since.

Are you sure you had Charmander in play from the previous turn? If you're sure its probably a bug... the game is filled with bugs... similar stuff happens to me sometimes.

Basically, you search your deck for a Pokémon's final form, skipping Stage 1. If you mean TCG Live is bugged or something, well, I don't know what to do. I just play with physical cards pretty much anyway.
