How do I play?

There is no tutorial, and I have no idea what I'm doing. I ended up in a ranked match, did not know how to win, what to do, or anything. I ended up just conceding the game

@MysticWitch There are plenty of tutorials. In the battles screen, look for the Guide icon with the question mark, in the lower left corner.

Are you playing the game on the PC or the mobile device? Nonetheless, on both platforms there is clearly visible whether you have Casual or Ranked mode selected by highlighting the currently active matchmaking, on top of the screen, and on the top left corner on PC. Both visually distinctive since Ranked mode display your current league, while Casual mode display selection between Standard, Expanded, and Trainer Trials.

Can't fully speak for new player's experience since I joined way back in TCG Online, and migrated my account to TCG Live, but I remember there was introductory tutorial that explained each user interface element, and how to navigate trough menus in TCG Live including selection between Ranked and Casual, right after first log-in.

If that tutorial was not sufficient, news is that in next update there will be total overhaul of new-user experience.

If you are however completely new to Pokémon TCG and know absolutely nothing about the play, then I would suggest to read this:
