Pokémon Sun and Moon: Yea or Nay?

I love Pokémon Sun and Moon, and I adore the remakes as well. But it seems like not everyone was a big fan? I will admit, I am a sucker for storylines and personal growth. I think everyone is well fleshed out and it really feels like real people! But that may be nostalgia talking, as it was the first game I got that wasn’t an emulator, haha. So what is your general opinion? Feel free to explain why you’re a fan or why not, I really want to know.

I love them. I'm definitely biased because it was the first Pokémon game I ever beat, but it's one of the best Pokémon games in my opinion. THE best when it comes to story.

And USUM ruin the story, but are REALLY fun to play. I love Mantine Surfing and Ultra Warp Rides a lot.

They are great Pokemon games, but the remasters are as lazy as you can get (somehow lazier than Brilliant Diamond/Shinning Pearl cause at least that has new graphics and is on a new platform). When I first played Sun/Moon after playing Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire I was pleased but disappointed with Team Skull but did enjoy my experience. The four unique islands gave fresh experiences every time and the plot twist stuff and Gladion was nice.
On the other hand Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon were my least favorite Pokemon games of all time until Sword/Shield came out because it didn't bring much new to the table, it was basically Sun/Moon directors cut. When I got it when it came out I was expecting a new story with new characters and whatnot but instead I got the previous story modified in ways that made it, in my opinion, worse than the original experience.

Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon were basically the 3rd version of the series, though. The 3rd version has always historically been mostly the same as the first 2, but with added things/updates, so I don't think it was a disappointment in that regard at all. I liked it, and it gave me a chance to have a similar experience with a different version (Ultra Sun whereas I played Moon for the first one).

i enjoyed Ultra sun primarily for being able to shiny hunt past legendaries.

Also the wingull flying overhead is one of my favorite things from any game for some reason.

Usually the third version has a different legendary (or starter) and a completely different name (Red/Blue/Yellow, Gold/Silver/Crystal, Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald, Diamond/Pearl/Platinum). This title had the same naming scheme as a sequel/remake so it being a third in the first entry doesn't hold. I will agree that it was treated like a third and is recognized as a third entry, which makes it quite disappointing when it was sold in stores as the second new entry for Gen VII unlike the usual thirds still being part of the original 1st entry. Oddly enough Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee is considered the second entry for Gen VII.

USUM changes details of SM's plot, though, to the point that it actively removed things, rather than being purely additive. The ending to Lusamine's story is perhaps the most egregious. I like Rainbow Rocket, but they didn't need to remove the conclusion and consequences to her story to shoehorn it in.

As I said in the other version of this thread, I do not like the way gen 7 delivered its story, with superfluous and plodding tutorials and cutscenes that grind the game to a halt every five minutes (or five steps at the start). But if someone wants to play a version of this generation, I always recommend SM over USUM.
