Sorry, I didn't mean to confuse the discussion.
By Green, I mean your rival in RGBY. He is known by various names across the different game, manga and anime continuities. I think he was called Green even in the English manga during its original publication.
Living in Japan, I only ever see him as Green these days. Blue was to be the cut female protagonist, before she was reworked as Leaf in FRLG.

Okay, I think I get it. I guess Blue/Green does get there before Red, but he's there for like, thirty minutes and didn't have to beat a champion to get there. Although I guess he's champion of the PML in Pokémon Masters…

I would say the champion you actually fight generally makes more of an impression on you than whoever is technically a champion in continuity. And Blue/Green was the first champion. He is the champion. He defined what a champion is in the series for at least the first decade or so of the franchise.

good point. I guess Red left more of an impression on me since I read the manga and also didn't play the original games. That and I just think he's cool 😊
