Pokémon I Eventually Found What They were Inspired By

Vulpix is inspired by Japanese Kitsune Folklore. I mean its a cute and cuddly Fox Pokemon but when it debuted and promptly Flamethrowered Misty, it melted hearts. Brock acting as its surrogate Father also was a bonus. Alas it was never meant to last until they reignited my love of the species by introducing Alolan Vulpix(based on the Arctic Fox). I love Ice Types and now my favorite Pokémon has a regional variant with that typing? Sign me up lol.

Mm yes, kitsune. I know a lot about different kinds of youkai.

Ironically, kitsune aren't kind most of the time. They can shapeshift into other people (by putting certain objects on their head) and pretend to be them and do devious things. There's different rankings of kitsune and some kitsune can even do good deeds only and reach high rankings and become godlike creatures. Just some of the info your local youkai expert knows.

Maybe next for the profile pics they should add the regional variants :D

Its the devious nature of Kitsune as to why I always felt Ninetales deserved a secondary typing and to me it ought to be Dark. Common belief is Psychic(due to the Psychic coverage it learns) or perhaps Ghost given the Pokémon LeafGreen, Y or Shield Dex entry(not to mention being insanely rare since it took to Gen 5 to get the Fire/Ghost typing) but I felt it should have been Dark when it was added back in Gen 2. It's not like there have been a lot of Fire/Dark types since then either. Houndour/Houndoom were basically it until Incineroar in Gen 7 and Chi-Yu in Gen 9. Given the few Fire/Dark types that exist, it wouldn't have hurt to give Kanto Ninetales a second typing like its regional variant has. Plus, if both variants were to face off, it would give the Alolan variant at least a fighting chance, although not a strong one given that Fire resists both Ice and Fairy.

Wait so the Litwick line was the first ghost/fires???

Correct and it was the LONE Fire/Ghost line until Gen 7 with Alolan Marowak and Blacephalon, Gen 8's Legends Arceus and Hisuian Typhlosion and Gen 9 when Skeledirge and Ceruledge were added. Fire/Psychic didn't exist until Victini or the Zen Mode Darmanitan in Gen 5 too so quite a few Fire type combinations came into existence during Gen 5 it seems. Delphox line in Gen 6 was the next one to use Fire/Psychic until Armarouge in Gen 9. In fact, here's a breakdown of Fire/X combinations. Mono Fire types will not be included
- Normal: 1 line(Pyroar) ← Gen 6
- Water: 1 line(Volcanion) ← Gen 6
- Grass: 2 lines(Scovillain, Ogerpon) ← Gen 8 and 9
- Bug: 2 lines(Volcarona, Centiskorch) ← Gen 5 and 8
- Psychic: 4 lines(Victini, Darmanitan Zen Mode, Delphox, Armarouge) ← Gen 5, 6, and 9
- Ghost: 5 lines(Alolan Marowak, Bacelaphon, Chandelure, Skeledirge, Ceruledge) ← Gen 5, 7, 9
- Dark: 3 lines(Houndoom, Incineroar, Chi-Yu) ← Gen 2, 7, 9
- Flying: 5 lines(Moltres, Ho-Oh, Charizard, Talonflame, Oricorio(Baile Style)) ← Gen 1, 2, 6, 7
- Rock: 3 lines(Hisuain Arcanine, Magcargo, Coalossal) ← Gen 2, 8
- Ground: 2 lines(Camerupt, Primal Groudon) ← nothing since Gen 6
- Electric: 1 line(Rotom(Oven form)) ← nothing since Gen 5
- Ice: 1 line(Galarian Darmanitan(Zen Mode)) ← Gen 8
- Fairy: does not exist ← Fire/Fairy Ninetales anyone?
- Fighting: 4 lines(Blaziken, Infernape, Emboar, Paldean Tauros(Blaze)) ← Gen 3, 4, 5 and 9
- Poison: 2 lines(Salazzle, Iron Moth) ← Gen 7 and 9
- Steel: 1 line(Hetran) ← Gen 4, hence due for another
- Dragon: 4 lines(Reshiram, Charizard X, Turtonator, Gouging Fire)
Feel free to check my list as I may have missed someone lol. Almost positive there hasn't been a Fire/Fairy yet.
