Why can't I bring my old cards from the original trading card game to Pokémon live?

The cards are transfered automatically when you migrate your account to TCG Live.
All the cards before Black & White series will be lost tho, there is no way to transfer those older ones.

To follow up on @DoubleCure's point, probably the reason why you can't transfer cards from pre-BW is because of the fact that their are WAY more cards than are truly necessary for the game to function properly. Adding all the cards would result in extremely long development and load times
