Firstly, besides Pikachu for the one that he has on hand, Ash has a variety of currently and formerly official trained and/or bonded Pokémon from the Kanto region and Orange Archipelago:

  1. Butterfree
  2. Pidgeot
  3. Bulbasaur
  4. Charizard
  5. Squirtle
  6. Kingler
  7. Primape
  8. Muk
  9. Tauros (x30)
  10. Mimey (nickname of Mr. Mime)
  11. Lapras
  12. Snorlax
  13. Dragonite
  14. Gengar

So, including the ones that any of his should have fully evolved into or should not have refused to evolve into, did any of you guys know which you think are the best Kantonian Pokémon you think that Ash should've caught or obtained? Why? Please let me know? Thanks.😉

snorlax since he is the reason that professor oak developed a small candy that is 3000+ calories which helped the vigoroth at a banana themed exhibit to get rid of the terrorizing snorlax

i wish Dodrio was a popular Ash pokemon. Or Dugtrio. Some pokemon that could have multiple personalities. I think it could have fun interactions in different situations.

You forgot Mr.Mime(granted his mother had more to taming it than he did), Haunter(how else did he "beat" Sabrina) and if you include Gen 8, then you have to add Dragonite and Gengar.

@Lonestar85 Oh, yeah. The last three of Kantonian Pokémon that I forgot to add above because Ash obtained, owned, used and trained them: Mimey (nickname of Mr. Mime), Dragonite and Gengar, and that’s all.

Of the ones Ash caught, Lapras is my personal favorite(I have a soft spot for Ice types but he releases it. Sigh…). Yet if there's one Kanto Pokémon he SHOULD have used at some point, it HAS to be Eevee. Darn thing has 8 Evolutions and he has had a run-in with Eevee or its evolved form in EVERY Generation he was in. Gen 1 with the Evolution Brothers and Gary/Blue at end of Orange Islands arc, Gen 2 with the Kimono girls/Sakura/Gary/Blue, Gen 3 with May, Gen 4 with May/Zoey, Gen 5 with Cynthia(and Pokémon Ranger… whose name escapes me atm), Gen 6 with Serena, Gen 7 with Lana and Gen 8 with Chloe. In all honesty, they were literally teasing us all those years and yet not once did he ever catch one.

Ash should have caught Arcanine in Kanto. It would have been a perfect fit for him because:

Strong and Fast – Arcanine is known as the "Legendary Pokémon" for its incredible speed and power, making it a great battle asset.
Fire-Type Power – Ash lacked a truly strong Fire-type in Kanto beyond his sometimes-disobedient Charizard. Arcanine would’ve given him a reliable Fire-type.
Loyal and Majestic – Its strong bond with trainers fits Ash's personality, and it could have been a great mount for travel.
Underdog Redemption – He had a Growlithe-like encounter with a police officer’s Growlithe but never got one himself. Evolving a Growlithe into Arcanine would have been an epic moment.
Arcanine would have been a perfect powerhouse and companion for Ash throughout his Kanto journey!
