Inclusion of a blind student on my team
Good afternoon!
I am an advisor to a high school club that travels to competitions to play in the video game portion. We have had a great time competing in the Indianapolis IN and Louisville KY events.
I have a severely visually impaired student who is interested in joining us on a trip to the Milwaukee WI event in May, but before I promise anything, I just need to know. Is there a way that he can join in the competitive event?
Thank you for your time!

Hi everyone!
Thank you all for your replies.
I really didn't take Eddie all that seriously. I teach high school. If I let every comment like his get to me, there's no way I would have lasted 34 years in the game. Still, I thank you for your support.
Unfortunately, I still do not have an answer that I can bring to my team. We practice this Friday. If any of you are professors, or know someone who is, I would love to get an event clarification.
My student knows all the sounds. When playing the game with the 3D graphics, he gets cues from a sighted person (not strategic clues…he doesn't need them, and he usually thinks faster than others can talk anyway.)
Do you think that such a helper would be allowed in a competitive arena?

I really hope this works out for your student, tell him we’re rooting for him.
