You don't need any energy attached to your pokémon to get the defence buff.

  did you get attacked to see if it was reducing the damage by 20 without energy?

  There haven't been any patches since it was discovered so of course it's not fixed. Maintenance downtime isn't a patch.

  Yes. In a match, but I had to replay three times against AI to replicate the problem.

  Sometimes, even if I DO have energy, it DOESN’T work.
