The deck I bought is illegal?
Hi, I just bought a New VMAX deck and I can't even use it because a lot of the cards in the deck are apparently illegal. What do I do? That cost a lot of crystals. There was no way of knowing before I purchased it that it was unusable.

It should be made abundantly clear that there are cards not legal in Standard before purchase. It should be in the item description and maybe a pop-up before you buy. At least the first time you buy such a product, or let people disable it themselves.
I agree that everyone should be encouraged to do their own research with any purchase, never mind virtual Pokémon cards.
But at the same time, it is not unreasonable for someone to think that buying a deck of Pokémon cards will let them play the Pokémon card game. Especially young children.

The main format for the Pokémon TCG is called "Standard". It is a rotating format, which means once a year the oldest cards will rotate out and become illegal to play in that format.
Different games with rotating formats have different methods of designating which cards are currently legal. In the case of Pokémon TCG, they use letters printed on the bottom of the card. I think everything F and beyond is currently legal.
If you buy an older preconstructed deck, it may contain cards that have rotated out. You can still use them in non-rotating formats, but those cards cannot be played in Standard. You will have to replace them if you want to play Standard.
Unfortunately other formats are not fully supported on TCG Live, and not too popular in paper either, so you may not get much use out of them.

The Sword & Shield series will be completely unplayable in Standard format as the regulation F* will also be rotated soon!
* The regulation F has the following expansions: Brilliant Stars, Astral Radiance, Pokémon GO, Lost Origin, Silver Tempest, and Crown Zenith.

If this year is like the past few years, then it will be.

Rotation is on Febuary 25th, same day EUIC starts and the Febuary set becomes legal, but it comes two weeks earlier on PTCGL.

As far as getting crystals back, unfortunately there is really nothing you can do about that. Its very frustrating :(
One thing you can do is replace any illegal cards with legal cards that might have similar effects. Although annoying it can be a good way of practicing your deck building and strategy skills.
Sorry you had to waste crystals, though :(
