Are Pokewalkers obsolete now?
Pokewalkers were those cool looking accessories that came bundled with Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver in their special packagings from 2009 (I think it was that year). With them, you could take your Pokemon out for a stroll in real life, and check the amount of steps you made and so on.
It was a good extra, but as it's been many years passed… Are they not important anymore? And speaking of accessories, another one being the Poke Ball controller, bundled with Let's Go Pikachu and Eevee, was great too, it felt like you had a real Poke Ball in your hand to swing for catching Pokemon and pressing its button on the centre certainly was the coolest part. ;D There should be more interesting Pokemon accessories to discover in shops and online… Right? I even have the Trainer Field Guess games and Trainer Trivia, and they talk! :)

The Pokéwalker was released in an era when everyone didn't have a smartphone in their pocket. They were around, but they weren't as sophisticated, reliable or ubiquitous as they are now, especially for young children, the target audience of Pokémon.
These days, if they wanted to make a Pokéwalker again, they'd release an app. Everyone is already carrying a device far more powerful than the home consoles of the time, never mind the DS, so why waste the production time and resources on making a bespoke doohickey?
We have lost the charm of the specialised portable devices of the 80s through early 2000s in the name of convenience.

Pokewalkers are not going to be obsolete. We can evolve it even further.

@MajorBrendan I suppose we could do both. Make an app for you average user and a bespoke device for fans who want it and those without access to or do not carry a smartphone.
But besides novelty or nostalgia, what would this new Pokéwalker offer? What would it do that a smartphone (or even the Switch, now the "home" console is also portable?

There's an Eevee one, but it's only in Japan. It doesn't connect with any other games or let you use any non-Eevee/Eeveelution Pokémon like the Pokéwalker and Pokéball plus do though.

…I apologise when I admit this, but, I'm not really a fan in smartphones, especially the modern ones. Also I don't really like why "games" on them tend to be unlicenced and very unbalanced, as usually they ask for "real money" in order to progress through them. I had that with a mobile game called Knights & Dragons, and it soon got ridiculous when playing through it normally. -_-
But yes, that's why I don't favour mobile phones. I'm more of a proper gamer for proper games and consoles officially licensed and well-balanced in their level of difficulty.
