Evolve Basic Pokemon to a Stage 1 from a different set?

I'm new to the TCG and I'm wondering if it's legal to do what's in the title, like for example I have Deino from Paldea Evolved and want to evolve it to a Zweilous from Crimson Invasion, would that be okay to do?

@NoScopeDeezCups Yes, it is legal to evolve that way... but if you're talking about Standard format you can't, because that specific Zweilous has rotated out of current Standard so you can't play it on Standard, but if it had not rotated you could use that and other evolutions from different sets.

yes, look at any Charizard ex deck and you’ll likely see 4 MEW Charmander, 1 PAF Charmeleon, and 3 OBF Charizard ex.
