I don't think any of you today who weren't around when Red and Blue launched can truly recognise the sheer thrill of adventure and intrigue that Kanto represented.

There was no widely accessible, readily available internet to look everything up. We didn't have everything spoiled months before the game's release. We hadn't even necessarily seen every Pokémon when we booted up the game for the first time.

Every new route offered new Pokémon, every badge gave you access to the next city you had never seen before, and who knew where legendary Pokémon were hiding? Could you even catch them in game?

Was the Pokédex really limited to 150 Pokémon? I keep hearing about Mew. I can't find it in the game, but everyone insists you can get one. How many more are hiding?

Someone showed me a picture of a round, blue Pikachu in Japan. マリル? I can't read that, but my friend said it says "Pikablu". Do I have to go to Japan to unlock it?

The possibilities were endless.
