New Approach for the pokemon game's opening

I was talking more broadly about how to approach writing an opening, and how it would feed into the rest of the game and its gameplay, rather than focusing on a specific plot.
I know the protagonist is meant to represent the player, but one thing I would like to see is an opening that gives them more of their own character.
Besides gen 3, every protagonist lives with their mum, absent father and either has no friends or is only friends with the rivals.
Maybe give them a larger family. Parents, grandparents, siblings, etc. Hobbies outside of Pokémon. You don't have to go overboard, just a little more flavour than the gen 1 setup again.

I would keep the protagonist silent, in a game where you and the main character are the same a blank slate feels more fitting.
When a game draws the line between you and the main character you can end up with way more interesting characters an example being Olimar from PIKMIN, he has more personality than secounds you have lived, and I'm not joking!

@Hey_PIKMIN This is one of the things you and I agree on something.

@MajorBrendan Trust me read the PIKMIN logs, from Louie's cooking every living creature to a random amazon delivery man somehow having a phd level intelligence when it comes to wildlife he's never seen before it's well worth the wait!

@Hey_PIKMIN I'm referring to keeping the protagonist silent in the Pokemon games.

@MajorBrendan But I'm serious, they are a great example of character development and really funny!
