If you hate writing "said" all the time- use special text and symbols to your advantage!

Making symbols clear (and adding a quick top-page list of symbols used for text) bypasses the whole said conundrum, but it might get confusing if several authors use symbols at once, etc etc... Don't be afraid to use emojis if it helps. It will not suddenly kill your popularity

You can also just change your text inside "" to be italic, bold, or underlined to signal a different character. You can even use '' or „„ or «» or <> and whatever else decides to fit your fancy.
