Pokemon Tips
If you were to give a person a couple pokemon tips what would they be?
1 I would tell them that if a pokemon is a different colour and sparkles you must turn off the game.
2 I would tell them that Pokemon get worse as they evolve.
3 You get the secret ending by beating the league with only 6 lv 100 caterpies

Start with the 3DS games (genuine). I am not biased at all.
Anyways, repels make the levels of all your next opponents higher by one level each time you use any repel, capping at LV. 80. The pain of going through caves and water without repels may be immense, but facing a champion using level seventy something starters and late-game Pokémon is worse, speaking from experience. This tip isn't very useful if you're playing on the Switch though, so:
This one applies even to games after USUM. If you Switch out your Party Pokémon, the AI of opposing trainers gets better the more you switch them out, if you remove the first Pokémon you caught in a Pokéball from your team, they get better items, if you change 5/6 of your first full team they get good IVs, and if you remove your starter, they get competitive EVs. This is to prevent people from carelessly switching out their friends, and is part of the reason nuzlockers don't like it when their Pokémon die.

You probably know that in Let's Go! mode and while using the Synchro Machine your Pokemon will refuse to knock out shinies, but did you know that after you've beaten the main story of SV if you use any attack on a shiny that would knock it out it'll instead be reduced to 1HP and you'll get the cute message "[Pokemon] held back so you don't miss this opportunity!". This makes wild shinies much easier to catch, but won't stop them from knocking themselves out with recoil or Explosion/Self-Destruct though - watch out for that.
Also, there's a secret tiering system in Surprise Trades. If you trade a weak Route 1 Pokemon you'll almost always get a weak Pokemon in return, but if you trade a legendary or shiny you're guaranteed a legendary or shiny in return. Try it out!
