I feel so bad for the hardstuck snorlax players

Yeah but nobody could use it because it was a stage two and it took four energy to use. Having high damage doesn't ensure that you will win.

Not in the way you're thinking. Back then, the best deck was a one-energy attack that only did twenty damage. So actually, high damage didn't increase your chance of winning at all! Funny how that works, eh?

charizard ex is so viable because its typing is incredibly good for the meta, rare candies are more accessible, it has built in energy acceleration (which it technically doesn't even need, because for once it has an attack that only requires 2 energy), its attack scales in damage making it easier to flip a game in your favor, and its attack has NO significant drawback, on top of having over 300hp with a rarely used type weakness. Other charizards released before this point had impractical energy costs, were often stage 2, and nearly always required discarding cards.
The only other notable charizards right now are from the go expansion - one is more circumstantial (and can only have one copy in the deck), and the other is mostly used for its ability.
