Handy Links: Duality roller & Damage Roller ← can use for Duality too.

Before I make the opening scene post, I want to remind everyone to read their character sheets and get acquainted with their abilities and Equipment. You are responsible for Hope, Stress and HP. I'll be helping with your position. I'll also try to answer questions(as best I can).

I'll also go over how combat will be carried out. Your Pokémon has a Weapon, Pokémon moves and Domain Card spells that you can use to fight your enemies on the battlefield. Each of those has a particular range. Most weapons have a range of Melee or 1 Square. Some are Very Close or 3 Squares, Close is 6 Squares, Far is 12 Squares and Very Far is 30 Squares.

Now a Square is equivalent to 5 feet. How far your character can move before they have to make an action roll is 30 feet or 6 squares. To keep track of your position, your character will have an X and Y coordinate. When moving, you'll mention where you're moving to(if at all because you can stay where you are). For example, let's say you start at position X:15, Y:1. If you move two spaces to the left and up 4 spaces, your new position will be X:13, Y:5. Moving left decreases X, moving up increases Y(and vice versa).

At that point you make a choice of whether to sprint up to an additional 30 feet(6 squares) by making an Agility roll(2D12 + Agility) or you declare an attack against a target with your Weapon/Pokémon Move/Domain Card that is in range. To determine range, you take the difference in coordinates and add them together. Say a target is at X13, Y10 and you just moved to X13,Y5. The difference would be 0(13-13) and 5(10-5). That means that any weapon with a range of Close or better will hit the target. Very Close or Melee cannot reach.

If in range, your weapon uses a specific trait while your Domain Card spells use your Spellcast Trait(which was defined in the Class page I linked awhile back). If you assigned your Traits shrewdly or simply followed the recommendation on the class page, you'll have a +2 bonus to your Attack rolls. Attack rolls are your Duality Dice(2D12) plus the trait corresponding to the weapon/spell of choice. In most cases it'll be 2D12 +2. 2D12 + 2 means you roll a pair of 12-sided dice, add up the result(ex: 6 + 8 = 14) and then add 2 to the result: 14 + 2 = 16. When rolling 2D12, note which dice rolled higher(Hope or Fear). If Hope was higher it's 16 with Hope. If Fear, 16 with Fear.

If the result meets or beats the target's Evasion, it hits. If that happens, the attacker then rolls Damage dice. The damage dice you roll is dependent on the weapon or spell used. If we used a Longbow, it's damage is D8 +3. So you roll a D8 dice(got a 5 as an example) and then add 3 to the result to get 5 + 3 = 8. That 8 damage is then applied towards the target's Damage Thresholds. Again it's a meets it or beats it format so if the target has a Damage Threshold of 8/16, it meets the Major Damage Threshold of 8. That results in 2 HP of damage to the target unless the target uses an Armor slot to mitigate the damage down to Minor(resulting in 1 HP). Certain classes have other damage mitigation perks they can use, such as the Guardian's Unstoppable Class perk(when active) that can further reduce it down to nothing. Note to @Fôxchild your Unstoppable(when active) only applies to Physical Damage. If you get hit with Magical(like from Special Attack Pokémon moves), it cannot reduce the severity 😇🙅

Opening scene will be posted shortly. Battle begins in ~1 hour.

All you see is darkness. Suddenly the light blinds your eyes as the blindfold is removed. Once your eyes adjust, you see a roaring crowd of Pokémon chanting. You cannot make out what it is but deep down you know it cannot be good. There is no way out of this arena but through the Gate you came through that is now locked.

You find yourself in a square arena, roughly the size of a 30x30 square grid. You look around and find other Pokemon in a similar situation but like you, they have the look of disillusionment and bewilderment. They too, have no idea where they are or why they are here.

Suddenly, a prominent figure in the crowd steps forward and crowd roars in adulation. From your vantage point in the arena, you can barely make out what looks to be a Tsareena.

"Greetings, my beloved subjects! I, Empress Tsareena have brought forth for you today a spectacle for the ages. For today, 6 tributes will compete not only for your enjoyment but for their very survival. For you see, only one of them will be permitted to leave here today alive. Which one that will be will be up to fate to decide. For your enjoyment, I present to you, your champions!" The crowd roars before it subsides for her to continue.

"At the West Gate, I give you Crybaby, the Wimpod!". The crowd roars in approval before she continues.

*At the North Gate, I give you Bob and Meowlin!". The crowd shifts their attention to an Ekans and Espurr being chained together and roars in approval.

"At the South Gate, I give you Whack the Cubone!" An imposing figure that draws a raucous cheer.

"At the East Gate, I give you Hamilton the Absol!" Hamilton appears to be a crowd favorite. Perhaps they view him as the most likely to win.

"Finally, in the center of the ring.."., An elevator opens in the ground and up comes a pole with a net hanging from it. Next to it is a Shiftry guard with a Stick. "I give you Zane the Chimchar!". The crowd boos in disapproval. The Empress hand gestures the crowd to quiet down and continues. " Zane is an agent of the evil Queen Vapor. She feels that she can rule in my stead" as Empress Tsareena gestures the crowd."

"Well I'm here to tell you that I'm pretty much the Queen bleep of the Universe Empress of this realm and my rule is unquestionable!" Just then the Shiftry pokes Zane inside the net.

"You 6 Champions are to battle here today for the crowds enjoyment. At the sound of the Horn, the battle begins so contemplate your moves right now."

    Your positions: (X:Y)

    Crybaby: 1:15

    Bob: 14:30

    Meowlin: 16:30

    Whack: 15:1

    Hamilton: 30:15

    Zane: 15:15

    Shiftry: 14:15

You have the first move. You're a bit far away from everyone though.

Okay... so I'm center of a 30x30 area, correct?

    How much can I move?

(You might have said it in the past but I don't recall it)

I'm aware. When you get the spotlight, you'll have to break free from the net with a Strength roll unless someone cuts it down and frees you. @clasingla @Locallywierd You are chained together. The length is 30 feet so the furthest you can go is 6 squares away unless either of you cuts the chain to break free.
