Rumoured Pokémon MMO

I assume we would be playing as trainers catching Pokémon rather than Pokémon themselves. I think that's what most players would expect.
I don't think it is really connected to Unite, outside of the business decision to support one product over the other. They cater to two different markets and are very different gameplay-wise.
The MMO would presumably be a similar experience to the main series, just with other trainers running around as you complete your quests.
I assume everyone would be able to collect badges, but I wonder if the conclusion would be becoming the champion. It would actually be pretty cool if there were one champion per server and players had to compete for the position, but practically that player would be expected to fight challengers all the time and it would become a full time job, so they would more likely use the Paldea system with an NPC champion fight and a champion rank. Players kind of expect to become champion at the end of their journey. I suspect there will be some kind of PVP mode with a leaderboard, though.
I do wonder if this would be a Switch 2 exclusive. Nintendo do dabble in smartphone development, and MMOs have traditionally been most popular on the PC. If it is locked to the Switch 2, I think it could be quite limited and it will suck to have to pay for NSO on top of the MMO subscription fee.

It'd be good if basically anyone but game freak, like the teams that make the spin offs make good games, if nintendo makes it it'd be at least good they haven't had a bad game in a LONG time, as long as its not game freak I'm hopeful

That is the standard for most MMOs. Some do go the F2P cash shop route (though lots of subscription based MMOs have cash shops too) but I think Pokémon is a brand that can definitely get away with charging the premium. There will probably be some kind of free trial period or level limit.
I think a lot of it depends on who their target audience will be. I think most would assume the obvious answer is children, but I do not think they are the target demographic for most of the franchise at this point. They have definitely taken the LEGO route for a lot of their merchandise, selling high priced collectibles to adult enthusiasts. And honestly, though the games are ostensibly for kids, since at least gen 6 on, if not earlier, a massive chunk of the fanbase has been millennials who played gen 1 when they were kids.
It is also worth noting that a big part of MMOs is the social element, playing and communicating with large swathes of strangers online, though many primarily stick to their existing friends and guilds. If they target children as the primary audience, or even simply allowing children, means the online interactions undergo a lot more legal and social scrutiny, and there would likely be limits to online chat functionalities and extensive moderation (which is expensive), if they even allow communication in-game at all.
All of this is to say I suspect an MMO may be targeting an older audience. And that audience has a lot more disposable income than children (or rather their parents who they have to nag to buy them stuff). Therefore a subscription model will draw in guaranteed income from the mature playerbase while inherently limiting access for the younger playerbase.

I don't know too many MMO's other than WoW and SWTOR. In both games, you create a character based on a class and species along with an alignment for story and PvP purposes. The only thing that comes close to mirroring or matching their class/species system is playing as a Pokemon instead of a Trainer. I mean how would you differentiate between Trainers and how would a Trainer be a Tank, Healer, DPS, etc.? The Tera Raids in Gen 9 have Trainers using specific Pokemon in tandem but if you play as the Pokemon, then you can basically have a Mystery Dungeon style game with various Guilds set up to take up Quests and what not.
Game would have a Single player/story component but also a PvP component where you battle other players as a Pokemon(hence kind of like Unite). PvE content could have mission rewards that yield Held Items, Evolution stones and other character upgrades tailored towards fine-tuning your Pokemon towards their class role(Tanks would prioritize Bulk, DPS on Offense, Healers on Speed + Utility because you have to act before the enemy does their next attack).
Certain Pokemon would do best at certain roles but every species can be a particular class if that player truly wants to(they just won't be exemplary at it compared to another species due to typing and other factors).
I'll add though that a game such as this would likely push the Switch 2's hardware beyond its capabilities. If they were to create something like this, it'd be relegated to PC only like those MMO's.

paying for NSA and a (probably) $15 subscription is frustrating. But there is also the case of a stable and flawless auction house for items which would be a major selling point. Items having durability(which we haven't seen in Pokemon), and how to convince people to play.

The rumor I'm aware of is only for 2029... much can happen meanwhile, so I wouldn't speculate too much for now… I like it tho if most of rumors were true... and yes I expect plenty of bugs.

I don't think they would do a PC exclusive release. It will definitely be on Switch 2 (or whatever the Nintendo console is when it actually releases). The question would be whether they allow it to go on PC too.
I doubt it will have the option to play offline. The single player experience would probably be playing through the game only completing whatever they call quests, battling against NPCs and wild Pokémon.
I wouldn't put it past them to open a separate MMO forum somewhere else, especially if another company actually runs the game.
Plus, do we really want the influx of new members brought in by the Pokémon MMO.?It would be Reddit Summer 2.0.
