Prologue:

Sprinting down a path, Rio stopped short, gazing at the tall, glowing golden structure in front of him. He had found the altar of the sun. "Rogue," Rio called to another Riolu, this one female. "Yeah?" Rogue replied, panting a little. "Can you give me a boost up?" Rio requested. "Got it," Rogue said. Quickly, the twelve-year-old Riolu who Rio had been traveling with for three years now boosted him up, letting him climb to the top of the altar. On his way up, Rio noticed a shimmering piece of stone that was all black, seeming unnatural, which he quickly pocketed. When he reached the top, Rio found what he was looking for, a Pokemon, one who had been left there and trapped by another one. He had been told to come here and find it by one of his friends- a Ralts named Gal –who had said, "This Pokemon was left there a few days ago. It needs help or it may not make it through the week alive." So Rio had taken Rogue with him away from the hollowed-out tree they were currently staying in to save what seemed to be, nothing. All that was there was a shell of what might have been. Just before Rio had the chance to carefully climb down, he fell, falling down the opposite side from where Rogue was. Rogue wouldn't see him or expect to need to make sure he doesn't fall.

I may not make it through the week because of that Pokemon, Rio thought. Rio started counting off what he had done in his life. Nothing good, he soon realized. Just as he accepted his fate of death, talons closed around his shoulders. "Are you okay?" Asked a Fletchling which had just caught him. "I'm fine," Rio replied a little annoyed. "You wouldn't be if I hadn't caught you," the Fletchling pointed out- it seemed to be male, "Are you sure?" "Yes," Rio replied, "I forgot to thank you. But I'd like to thank you properly. What's your name?" The bird hesitated for a second before saying, "I'm Birb. What about you?" "Thank you for saving my life, Lord Birb," Rio said, "I'm Rio." "I'm not a lord!" The bird said indignantly. He seemed like a lord. Rio was going to keep calling him a lord. "Are you sure?" Rio inquired, "You're obviously of higher class." "Maybe I am," Birb said, "Maybe I'm not." Before he could reply, Rio was placed carefully on the ground by Birb. Then, seemingly appearing out of nowhere, a Shiny Fennekin came and whispered something in Birb's ear. Rio only caught a single word, which sounded like, "Lunacrus," he didn't know what it meant, but Rio knew it didn't sound good. "What's a-" Rio began to say, but he was cut off by Birb saying, "I'm sorry Rio, but I have to leave. I hope we meet again someday."

After the bird flew off, Rogue walked over and asked, "What was that about?" "I don't know," Rio said, "But I don't think it shows very good endings for either of us." The two then walked off into the distance, headed back home.
