What's one thing you tell yourself every new playthrough... and then immediately don't do?
Mine is always "I'm going to use Pokémon I've never used before." I mean it every time. I don't do it every time. What's yours?

There has never been a game/playthrough where I don't use Vulpix. Day I don't is the day I die or it's simply not in the game(like Z-A because it doesn't Mega Evolve 🙅)
My Scarlet team would have used both but I started with the Fire Croc. Had I not, then I'd have two Kitsune Foxes. At least I had one but it ate at me not using the other.

I say... "that's it... last try, if it happens again I'm uninstalling this garbadge"...
And eventually it does happen 😅 I rage uninstall many games.

Mine is always (especially for my Gen 9 runs) "I'm gonna use Set style battles, I PROMISE"
Set Style
I figured some people may not know the difference between Set and Shift style battling, so here it is.
In Shift battling, when you knock out an NPC's pokemon, you are told which pokemon will switch in at the end of the turn and you are given the option to switch your pokemon out in between turns. In Set battling, you don't have this option, meaning that you can only pivot/hard switch like in online battles.

If I decide on some kind of theme or challenge for a playthrough I usually do it. Sometimes I might put it on hiatus if I get bogged down with work or another game I want to play comes out or something.
I quite like picking an aesthetic theme for my team and limiting myself only to Pokémon of that theme. It encourages you to use Pokémon you might not otherwise touch and it makes things a little more challenging because you are not always picking the strongest Pokémon every time.

Sometimes I'll catch Pokemon and be like, okay I want to use this for ranked battles so that means no trainers because I like playing blind and it will offset EVs. Some physical pokemon get less benefit from Defense EVs and even less from Special Attack and
I should stop playing differently(not in a good way) and either get through the story and then hunt everything, or take longer and have more breaks. Instead I take all the pokemon I train and overpower everyone in the game and my Pokemon are just close to being the very best and having the best EVs. It would be interesting to have a mode after beating the story that allows you to call trainers you beat to ask them to face you with pokemon of only a certain EV.
