@clasingla Been reading Pokemon 5e and their STAB bonus is basically adding our Proficiency to the roll. So in the case of Powder Snow, as an example, it deals 1D4 Ice Magic Damage that with STAB would get +1 bonus at level 1 that goes as high as +6 with a maxed Proficiency. Meaning it's 1D4 + STAB(Proficiency). I also have a chance to freeze the target but that's not damage related.

Since I don't feel getting +1-6 bonus to a Pokemon move is game breaking, what do you think? Oh and is the D4 on Powder Snow based on Proficiency or it's capped to low damage on purpose because it's a 40 power move 🙅

Not sure how it's complicated to add. It only applies if the Pokemon move matches the typing of the Pokemon using it and it's only a +1-6 bonus to the roll result before Type chart comes into play(multiplying it by 1/4, 1/2, 1, 2 or 4). So if I used Powder Snow on a Ground type and rolled a 4, id get 4 + 1 = 5 x 2 = 10 Ice damage on the target.

The real question is what to do with fractions. Like I use Powder Snow on a Steel type. I roll a 4 + STAB(1) to get 5 Ice damage but then it's cut in half to 2.5. do we round down to 2 or round up to 3.

You could leave the onus on the player, provided it's explained. STAB and Type chart only come into play with Pokemon moves. When using equipment or Domain spells, then it's like we were playing traditional Daggerheart.

My understanding is as follows. Pokemon moves have a pre-defined power. Namely they don't utilize Proficiency with respect to Damage dice. 40 or less Base Power uses D4, 41-60 uses a D6, 61-80 uses a D8, 81-100 uses a D10 and anything 101+ Base power uses a D12. The amount of dice is up to GM to decide but I figure the following works well: Base Power/30 rounded down = number of damage dice. Meaning anything below 60 base power uses one damage dice, 60-89 uses 2 damage dice and 90-119 uses three damage dice and so on(up to you if you want to do 5D12 for Hyper Beam and equivalent moves). Hence Flamethrower, using those metrics, would deal 3D10 Fire Damage.

You roll damage dice and add STAB(if applicable) that is your Proficiency(+1-6 or higher if you boost it beyond that) that is added to the roll result. Player applies the type chart multiplier with fractions rounded up so 5/2 → 3 damage.

Using that Flamethrower example, you roll 7, 4 and 8 to get 19. If a Fire type at level 8 that has a Proficiency of 6 would add +6 to the result(19 + 6 = 25) and then applies type chart(target was Grass for x2 or 50 Fire Damage). If target was a Rock type then it's 25/2 = 12.5 or 13 Fire Damage. The STAB difference is 19 x 2 = 38(12 damage) or 19/2 = 9.5 = 10(3 damage).

I don't see how that is complicated but maybe I'm just built different since math was my strong point in school.
