Have you made or done any yet? Any tips or advice on them?

I submitted four yesterday (July 21, first day they were available). Niantic stated routes would be approved or denied within 24 hours. It’s now been 28 hours since my second route was submitted, and …..nothing.
further, no routes are available anywhere in my city that I have been to

I believe they’ve now retracted that to say it’ll take about two weeks for them to be reviewed.

There is AI involved now. So some routes based on some random criteria none of us know about get accepted instantly. And you can successful walk 60 seconds after creation.
You can make a near identical route. Safer than safe route in a park. Stops all over the shop. And it goes into a queue.
Some queues have items three months old now. Mine cleared out. But six weeks ago started backing up. With only only one or two going straight via the AI
So hopefully your routes list has been acted on. That some routes are AI accepted

Some people @PkmnTrnrJoe @VoteBlue still have routes in review since June.
My own queue is two months old. The AI has auto accepted some routes but the others just sit there gathering dust.
So do not believe anything you see on the length of time routes will take to be reviewed. It is totally random

My June one has now thankfully been reviewed. Rejected for nonsense reason but was reviewed. Now the earliest one I have is 17th August so only two months old.
