I am very very very confused by this story and yet I kind of get it? Does that make sense?

It's a good thing, anyway. This makes me want to share a piece of the story I'm working on, but I'd have to choose carefully which part… or do some censoring…

Actually, whatevs, I've got a little piece-
Golden twilight makes the sky glow orange over a long, plank and rope bridge. A boy, fourteen, leads a chestnut colored horse with a lot of firewood on her back and carrying some himself, while a middle-aged man with a black goatee and black hair in the back carries more bundles of firewood, nearly as many as the horse, yet doesn’t seem to be straining badly.
“Thanks for helping me with the firewood, Jo,” he says. He turns to him. “You’re quite a strong young man.”
Jo smiles awkwardly. “Hey, it’s easy to carry firewood when you know you’re getting your wife’s cooking later, Rusl! Uli’s goat meat is the best! Plus, Colin is waiting!”
Rusl laughs. “It’s not quite dinner yet.” He turns to the sun, just barely visible. “I tell you; this sunset is worth any good meal!”
Jo smiles. “I like twilight too.” He leans onto the bridge’s ropes and sighs, his red hair looking like fire against the orange glow. “It reminds me of someone. But I don’t know who. It’s like… like it reminds me of someone I’ve never met. Y’know?” He cocks his head, making his hair flop slightly to the side as he fixes his sapphire eyes on Rusl.
Rusl laughs and puts a hand on his shoulder. “I hope you meet this twilight-person someday. Maybe Hylia’s leading you to them!”
Jo snorts. “Let’s get the firewood back to your house.”
The two drop the firewood off outside a small, simple home. A young boy with blond hair bursts out the door and jumps into Jo’s arms. “Are you staying for dinner? C’mon, please! You haven’t in forever!”
Jo laughs, hugging the blond kid back. “Yeah, yeah, I’m staying for dinner, Colin. I can’t go skipping your mom’s cooking, huh?” He lifts Colin up easily, since Colin is so small, and holds him by his side in one arm.
A woman comes to the door, her hair blond like Colin’s. Her middle is round from pregnancy, her eyes tired but kind, like her husband’s. She smells like the dinner she was just making. “Jo! Thank you for helping Rusl with the firewood!”
Jo smiles. “Apone did all the real work. Thanks, girl.” He pats Apone’s muzzle. Apone snorts. Jo continues eagerly, “I heard you’re cooking tonight, Uli?”
Uli smiles, clearly proud of herself. “Of course you’d be excited. I made pumpkin soup and goat meat. Ilia helped.”
Jo starts. “Wait, Ilia’s here? Colin, why didn’t you TELL me?!” He quickly shifts Colin to his right arm and uses his left hand to finger-comb his hair. Colin laughs.
A pretty girl Jo’s age pokes her head out from behind Uli, sticking her tongue out. Her hair is blond, not too long and resting on one shoulder. Her eyes are a beautiful, brilliant emerald green. “I told him not to tell you! I should’ve told Uli too…”
Jo turns to Colin, playful annoyance in his eyes. “How dare you?” Colin cracks up, shaking with laughter. “It’s her fault! She said I couldn’t tell you or else she’d put Apone’s fur in your food!”
Jo glares at Ilia mockingly. “That’s just twisted right there. Also, I find Apone’s fur in my food all the time. You’re gonna need a better threat.”
Uli laughs lightly. “I’d love to let this keep going, but let’s have dinner, alright?”
            Jo nods. “Please.”
This is the very beginning, supposed to be calm before the storm…2 -
