Its a world where things got too overpopulated and humans had to escape. This part is speculation, but theorizers believe that Zygarde was trying to save the world by eating everything. It became a cancer and was destroying everything in its path.

Things don't become boring when all you do is walk around. Sometimes the path you walk hold many stories we don't even realize.
