Nintendo has had several forums over the years (like NSider in the mid-2000s, and Miiverse in the 2010s), and they don't last because moderating them takes way too much resources and they decide it's just not worth it.

I mean, I was around for both of those. Forums by corporations don't "just go out of service"; things happen for a reason, decided by meetings with executives who ask, "Is the benefit of keeping this around worth the resources?"
I know that maintaining orderly moderation was a challenge for both places. They were full of rulebreaking kids.2
