Probably mini-conventions or something in cities around the world over the year.

The images were clearly designed to make people think they were new games. Some people definitely had a shock, followed by disappointment.I don't know if Japan will get the same events, I suspect we'll get our own, but I am not expecting much from this. It does make sense to divide it into two events. You do not want the kids who just got into Pokémon with SV as their first ever game and the millennial who's been playing since RBY who brought his life sized Gardevoir plush encouraged to attend the same event.

What if it’s, Pokémon forums but in REAL LIFE!?!??!??!!?!
(I got this joke idea because it says connect with trainers and I’m pretty sure that’s what the forums are for)
