Will these be playable or did my kids and I waste money on buying theme decks and using the code cards?

None of your decklists from PTCGO will carry over. You'll still have all of the cards, but not the list to form the deck unless you save it before you migrate.
That said, there's no theme deck format, so there's no place to play the theme decks against other theme decks. You'd be playing against constructed decks most of the time and losing badly.

Theme deck code cards can be purchased online for a lot less than buying the decks themselves. Don't buy physical product if you just want the codes.
