I think I finally have a question because I think I’ve been doing Sorcerous Burst wrong with respect to me rolling 8 on the D8. Getting a 1-7 isn’t the issue but specifically getting an 8 because it permits me to roll additional D8’s equal to my spellcasting ability modifier, which for Sorceress is Charisma. Since I have +3, that would imply that I’d roll three D8’s and add that result to the initial damage roll of 8 correct? All this time I’ve been rolling just 1 D8 if I got lucky lol. So my question is, am I correct in that if I roll an 8 on Sorcerous Burst, I’d roll three D8’s or do I roll a D8 first and only roll additional D8’s up to my spellcasting modifier if and only if I get 8 on subsequent rolls? As an addendum, what effect does the Cantrips upgrade have on it? Says 2D8 at level 5, 3D8 at level 11 and 4D8 at level 17. Namely if I upgrade the Cantrip, do I roll two D8’s and if either of them rolls 8 I get the bonus D8 effect or how exactly does it work here?

For the other part it will happen naturally as you level up

    I have one

I was talking to my Uncle and he said multi- classing is possible

Could I get to Level 5 Monk, from that point to 10 do Barbarian (so at 10 I'll be Level 5 Monk and Level 5 Barbarian), and after that I'll spread the levels between them, meaning once I'm 20 I'll be a Level 15 Monk and 15 Barbarian

May I do this or do I need to stick with Monk?

multiclassing is a thing but it doesn’t work like that when you choose to multi class your taking a level in a different class instead of your original class your total amount of levels can’t go above the party’s level so you can not have 15 in monk and 15 in barbarian at level 20 they total has to add up to 20 levels at the point in time right now I would recommend sticking with monk for the next level since you get a monk subclass at that level

    I messed up

    I haven't finished reading, but you're right

That would be to level 30

No, I said what I wanted wrong

At Level 10, after distributing my levels, I'd be level 5 Monk and Level 5 Barbarian

At 20 (which I believe is max) I'd be 10 in each

    That's what I want

    Sorry, I messed up

I'll finish reading what you said now

    Okay

    Done reading

What I want to do is stick with Monk until 5, focus on Barbarian until 10, now level 5 in both classes, then evenly put my levels between then until 20, where I will be 10 in both

Or are you saying once I multi-class, I have to stick with the one I switch to?

What do you mean by naturally? So the first part is D8 = 8 yields another D8 roll to add onto it. If I roll D8 on that one, I get another D8 and can theoretically get 8 + 3 x 8 or 40 damage if I get insanely lucky and roll 8 on all D8 rolls. But the other part is still bugging me. When the Cantrip is upgraded, I roll 2D8, 3D8 and 4D8 respectively at those given levels correct? Furthermore, if I roll 8 on any of them, I get a bonus D8 roll correct(with the D8 bonus if I roll 8 on it).

Also and this is just a question I have on it but what about Tempest Cleric's and specifically their Channel Divinity ability upon reaching level 2. I've been kind of fixated on Clerics ever since I started looking into Hatenna w/ Healer ability on it and came across this. Since Sorcerous Burst can be classified as Lightning or Thunder Damage, Channel Divinity permits max damage in lieu of rolling but since the extra D8's on Sorcerous Burst are predicated on rolling, would I be able to bypass "chance" and guarantee max damage on Sorcerous Burst or is it incompatible? My thinking is the latter because that would be stupidly OP to get 40 damage Lightning strikes at level 2.

no it’s not switching classes it you still will have both of your class (barbarian and monk) and their features it’s just when you level up you have to choose where your putting your level
