A Matchmaking Fix That Could Revive the Entire Meta

I think one thing that could make the game a lot more fun would be encouraging players to use the full card pool, so we’d start seeing more creative decks built around underused cards.

How could that be done?
Actually, pretty simply.

Since this is a digital card game, the developers already know which cards are played the most and which ones are barely used. Based on that, each card could have a hidden score tied to its usage frequency.

  • Highly used cards → higher hidden score
  • Rarely used cards → lower hidden score

A deck’s overall score would then be calculated from the scores of the cards inside it.

During matchmaking, decks with a higher score would tend to face other high-score decks, while decks made of less common cards would more often match against similarly “unconventional” decks.

What would be the result?

If you’re tired of the meta, you could simply build a deck with unusual cards and naturally queue into other off-meta, experimental decks. This would massively open the door for creativity, new ideas, and weird combos nobody has tried before.

It would also extend the game’s lifespan, since we’d see players exploring forgotten cards and discovering new interactions. Overall, I think this kind of system would make the game much more fun.

Agreed. That's the bane of all card games. People netdeck (copy a deck from on online 'meta deck chart') then they all play the same deck. Often you have so called mirror deck battle. Two people playing identical decks and just relying on RNG/luck, and of course - skill.

I'm level 40 and sometimes have been matched with lvl. 10 which I feel bad about and try to play in a way (if my opponend doesn't concede) that would actually leave some room for an interesting game - don't use EXs unless opponent plays them, etc. And in the past have also been on the receiveing end of this. As a new account matched against whales with a top tier meta deck.

I actually enjoy playing solo missions with one of those crappy rental non-EX decks more than playing the same old 'perfect' deck.

In hearthstone, when I used to play it, they have a battle mode (brawl) where you and the opponent don't get to pick your deck, this was actully quite fun as you just got some random cards you haven't played before and had to come up with a strategy on the spot. This is something I'd like to see in this game too.
