Can't link Pokemon Go with my Trainer Club Account

Hey, I have been having trouble trying to connect Pokemon Go account with my Trainer Club Account, and I'm wondering if there is a step I'm missing? I tried to log into my Trainer Club through my phone, but for some reason, it keeps saying that my login info is no good. When I try to find my id, after I say I forgot, it finds it. But when I try to get my password looked up, even willing to change it, once I put in my id, it says that is not a legitimate one. I am wondering if I am supposed to find a Pokemon Trainer Club app, or something else, that needs to be done, in order to make it possible.
