Wierd and unknown facts about the Gen 2 (G/S/C or HG/SS) games
My favorite generation of Pokemon games has long been the Gen 2 games, which are Gold, Silver, and Crystal. Does anyone here know any interesting and odd facts about the games in either that generation or the HeartGold and SoulSilver games since those are remakes of G/S? Thank you 😁

Everyone knows that event in HGSS where you can bring an event Arceus to the Ruins of Alph, and then meet Cynthia and a Hiker in the Sinjoh Ruins where a weird scene happens and real life images are shown and you get an Egg that contains one of the Sinnoh Legendaries. But if you somehow get another Arceus (either the unreleased Azure Flute one from DPPt, or if you used that one first, the event gift one) you can see it again, but Cynthia has left and the Hiker is the only one there. The Arceus from the Azure Flute event can be shiny, which appears in the cutscene, and you can get another Legendary Egg from the event.
Also there's a theory that the Hiker is Volo but I don't feel like explaining that.

If you actually have an Unown in your party for some reason and decide to put it in the front while at the Ruins of Alph, then talk to it, the game says it makes strange noises that sound like speech or singing (though all you can hear is its cry).

I think one of the coolest things about gen 2 is its development history. A lot of it is well known, but it is always interesting and somewhat inspiring to share.
When gen 2 began development in Japan, gen 1 had not yet become a global phenomenon and had simply enjoyed enough success in Japan to justify a sequel.
The game was envisioned as the series' ultimate conclusion, similar to apocryphal stories about Square and Final Fantasy. Its success would of course see those designs expanded.
Gamefreak was a studio composed of enthusiasts rather than professional programmers, and they were largely self taught. The team struggled to fit all of Johto and its content onto the (especially by modern standards) tiny Game Boy Color cartridge.
But then Satoru Iwata swept in and helped the team refine and compress the code, particularly improving graphical compression, to the point that not only would Johto comfortably fit, but they could squeeze Kanto on there, too.
Gens 1 and 2 are kind of an endearing underdog success story. With Pokémon now the largest media franchise on Earth, it is certainly inspiring, but the stumbling development practices one could forgive a small indie studio of their passion project are not nearly as excusable for a franchise of Pokémon's current size.

Also a Pokémon might find Shiny Leafs in the game and if you show it to the friend in New Bark you can get a Leaf Crown and a certificate.
(I tried to post this a while ago but it doesn't seem like it got posted)

Happens to me all the time. I think a good 60-70% of my posts get held for approval, delaying my responses, often meaning questions have already been answered by others or the conversation has moved on by the time it becomes visible.
And some of them never get approved for no discernable reason. Some of my more scathing critiques of Pokémon and Gamefreak get approved or go up immediately, but seemingly innocuous posts are held, sometimes indefinitely.
I wish the rules and criteria for triggering the content bots were more transparent.
