To open or not to open?

My son got The first movie 8 trading cards unopened for his birthday. I looked them up on eBay and they can go for 33-45 dollars a pack unopened. I cannot figure out what the value of the cards could be on the inside of these packs are. Does anyone have insight? I am not ever sure where to begin looking. We did an internet search, but I am a little lost. Thank you for your help.

I look up photos of that set of cards, preferably on an official Pokémon website, and based on looks and other aspects, if your kid really wants 8 of them or 33-45 dollars. In my opinion, I would keep and open them based on the looks and novelty of the cards.
