Can anyone explain this XYZ story element?

in the episode "Dream a Little Dream from Me!", Darkrai causes all the Pokemon to have nightmares.
What I'm wondering is why Zygarde (Squishy) seemed to intercept or teleport into Meowth and PIkachu's dreams. Also, he was the only one who knew he was in a dream. There's no way Darkrai could have manually put Zygarde in their dreams or even knew of Zygarde's power, so does Zygarde have mystical dream-hopping abilities we don't know about or what?

I'm as clueless as you. Sometimes, there are plot holes that grow bigger as you try harder to patch them, and that's no exception.
