Does Rigid Band reduce damage of benched Pokémon?

I am curious if the new Rigid Band Pokémon tool will work on benched Pokémon as well?

For example, if Radiant Greninja attacks with Moonlight Shuriken for 90 damage to the bench, but the benched Pokémon is a stage 1 with a rigid band attached, will the damage be reduced by 30 even though the Pokémon being attacked is not in the active spot?
