Rediscover your passion for the Kanto region and the first 151 Pokémon originally discovered there in the Pokémon TCG: Scarlet & Violet—151 expansion. With more than 160 cards, artwork that captures the power and personality of the featured Pokémon, and Pokémon ex that pack quite a punch, this expansion has a lot to offer. Here’s a taste of a few of the exciting cards you’ll find in Pokémon TCG: Scarlet & Violet—151, available for purchase on September 22, 2023.

Gengar

Illustrator Tomokazu Komiya always delivers unforgettable artwork, and Gengar is the perfect partner Pokémon for Komiya’s childlike, almost unnerving aesthetic. With its characteristic mischievous grin, this particular Gengar looks like it just might melt into Komiya’s distinctive background of shapes, squiggles, and bright colors. Most likely, Gengar is preparing to deliver one of its two somewhat sneaky attacks. Poltergeist forces your opponent to reveal their hand and does 50 damage for each Trainer card you find there. And Hollow Dive does 110 damage, allowing you to place three damage counters on your opponent’s Benched Pokémon in any way you like. Those are excellent tricks to have up your sleeve for your next Pokémon TCG battle, but as with any Komiya card, it’s the artwork that really stands out here.

Aerodactyl

Shinji Kanda might be a relative newcomer to the world of the Pokémon Trading Card Game, but when it comes to creating TCG artwork, he’s already an expert! In Kanda’s expert hands, Aerodactyl becomes an avenging god of destruction, wreaking havoc on the vivid forest landscape through which it flies. This is a card that tells a story, painting a picture of a fierce and powerful Pokémon. And if you’re planning on developing a strategy with Aerodactyl, there’s plenty to work with. Aerodactyl’s Glide attack does 30 damage, but its Devolution Ray is particularly interesting. It does 100 damage and if your opponent’s Active Pokémon is an evolved Pokémon, you can devolve that Pokémon by putting the highest Stage Evolution card on it into your opponent’s hand. It’s difficult to describe the satisfaction of watching your opponent’s Active Pokémon devolve right in front of them. With Aerodactyl, you can enjoy this triumph.

Poliwhirl

Gemi’s Poliwhirl meandering through the rain is an absolute mood. The artist has created a dreamy, almost impressionist scene that perfectly captures the contemplative feeling of a rainy day. As a Water-type Pokémon, Poliwhirl is obviously unbothered by the rain, seemingly gazing at its own reflection in one of the many puddles that have accumulated on the sidewalk. Streetlights add to the magic of the scene, creating vivid pastel splashes against the blue color palette. While Poliwhirl’s Wave Splash and Frog Hop attacks are certainly useful, let’s just take a little more time to join Poliwhirl in meditating on the quiet joys of a rainy day.

Blastoise ex

Many cards boast interesting artwork or a strategically powerful Pokémon, but this Blastoise ex offers the best of both worlds. Blastoise ex’s 330 HP is no surprise given that the Shellfish Pokémon is an absolute tank—almost literally. As if it wasn’t difficult enough to KO, Blastoise ex’s Solid Shell Ability allows it to take 30 less damage from attacks. And it's more than capable of shelling out damage as well: its Twin Cannons attack is capable of doing up to 280 damage if the user discards up to 2 Basic Water Energy cards from their hand. On this card, illustrator Mitsuhiro Arita offers an interesting and distinctive perspective on Blastoise ex. Typically, Blastoise ex is depicted at a completely different scale, closer to the viewer, seemingly caught up in the heat of battle. But here we see Blastoise ex underwater, captured in rich shades of blue, with clever shadows that suggest unknown and potentially immense depths.

Wigglytuff ex

Wigglytuff ex is looking extra tough with 250 HP and an Ability that allows it to gain an additional 100 HP if it has any Special Energy attached to it. While many Pokémon ex boast HP levels of 300 and above, its 350 HP puts Wigglytuff among the hardiest Pokémon ex you can find. Its Friend Tackle attack also comes with a condition: if you played a Supporter card from your hand during this turn, the damage goes from 90 to 180, which almost guarantees a Knock Out against most Pokémon. Judging by the determined expression on Wigglytuff’s face and the fact that it can potentially access 350 HP, it’s not going down without a serious fight.

These are just a few of the incredible cards you'll find in Pokémon TCG: Scarlet & Violet—151. See what other cool cards you can discover when the expansion releases on September 22, 2023.
