Probably true. Too many people view 3D as an objective upgrade. A linear progression. A step forward.

When it can just as easily be an artistic choice.

The invention of film didn't mean that no one wanted to write books or paint still pictures anymore.

Not everything has to decend into the open-world mono-game.

GI like both styles, I think they could mix 2D with 3D in some Pokémon games, more in a new style.

I would like to see Pokemon return to the good old 3ds era games.

A lot of great 2d genres are sadly going full 3D nowadays, like Zelda and Pokémon. I just wish they’d find it in their hearts to do both…

Maybe this new ‘Pokémon Works’ will be devoted to 2D and spin-offs..? That’s what I’m hoping.

We have gotten 2D Zelda games and it sounds like they are not planning to make BotW-style games forever now, as I feared. I have more confidence we'll see 2D Zelda again than 2D Pokémon.

I hope so, they don’t seem necessarily closed to the 2D format, but we haven’t had a new one in 11 years (not counting Tri force heros) but hopefully we’ll see another. From what I’ve heard/read it looks like they want to continue botw style for good, but maybe you’ve seen something or understood something that I haven’t.

I can't remember where I saw it, but I do recall reading an interview with the developers saying that the next Zelda after TotK won't be BotW-style.

Which is good because I didn't like BotW.

Well that’s comforting. I love BoTW but I think it needs to blend with the classic Zelda formula, but then I think it’d be at the peak.
