I mean, he's got strong attack, lots of HP, and can be obtained relatively early (at least in the Kanto games.) Sure, Gardevoir and Lucario CAN be as good, possibly better than Nidoking, but Nidoking is quick to obtain, strong, and reliable. Moon Stones were kinda phased out in the later games, but that's not what this post is about.

    I completely agree; gen 1 nidoking is way better than gardevoir and lucario. I have never seen gardevoir or lucario one hit KO all of the elite four with X accuracy fissure or horn drill.

    In the first 15 minutes of playing Pokémon yellow, I literally replaced my starter Pikachu with a Nidoking. Pikachu stat wise is bad.

    I love nidoking. his shiny is great and his stats are off the chart.
