Could be nostalgia in many cases... but I completely disagree about the childhood part... better quality games don't mean a worse childhood.

Today's childhood is by far worse than those days in so many aspects, I don't even know where to start.

it's not hard, it's impossible to be unbiased on anything, our unique memories and experiences have shaped each and every one of us in such a manner that we will always see and respond to things differently. i love gen 7 because it was my first exposure to the series, others hate it because of how far it was from previous entries.

I think people tend to have very black and white takes on things nowadays like you said, and people reaally need to be more fair and critical of things. For example, do I like playing the original mario bros? No. But can I admit that it's one of the most important and ground breaking games out there? Yes I can.

I think the game has been growing. But also been made easier. All to get more people playing. But shouldn't the goal be something noble like maintain pokemon's connection to science. And get people to research the connections these "boxes" of art have to it. The gamer skills to play stuff like contests and battle tower and casino should also be maintained, I would like this to come back and remain optional.

No, it's absolutely possible to be unbiased. I hate this "eVeRyThInG's SuBjEcTiVe" fallacy. It's cope used to dismiss criticisms you don't like.

You liking or disliking something, sure, that's subjective. But there are absolutely objective standards we can cite when assessing the quality of games (or anything else). It's all about what you are measuring and your methodology.

Framerate, number of bugs and glitches, number of crashes, presence of plot holes or story inconsistencies in the narrative, the amount of time players have to spend navigating menus or the world to achieve a certain task, and the number of mistakes they make in executing it. Those are just a few examples of objective qualities off the top of my head we could use to judge a game.

And at any rate, I said "unbiased as possible".

    I actually like Mario 1 and 3

I probably wouldn't by myself, but me and mom played those two games together for a week straight, staying up until past midnight to beat them

I have fond memories with the games

I don't plan on having kids, but if I do that is something I hope we would get to experience together as well

as someone who started with the newer titles firsts I do have to say that the older stuff usually then gen 4-5 era stuff is much better than majority of the modern stuff and had much better world building and story then the newest titles which though Gen 8 had some pretty areas most of them are forgettable since they were extremely linear and Gen 9 in short was a barren wasteland with literally nothing of value in the main region and feel the main story didn’t hold much weight to it since it’s mostly told in flashbacks and short sequences that only purpose is to get penny and arven to join you at the end of the route which for arven story makes sense but not really for penny story or nemona for that matter then it has a plot twist that fails to do what I believe a good plot twist should do 1. In hindsight should makes since it shouldn’t come out of the blue and looking back there should be some evidence though not presented in front of your face pointing at this being the case I feel like the twist the professors are AI really didn’t have anything backing the evidence up til the very end so it fails in this regard 2. Adds value to the story and makes certain choices more meaningful I feel like this choice made at the end doesn’t really do a change for the better to the world building since it really doesn’t add much to the story in contextualizing events and I feel like it hurts arven as a character since the professor was their parent in the game and it’s implied their relationship might not be the best yet with the twist of the professor being AI and not the real one really hurts a chance for arven to grow as a character

I feel like gen 9 really was very heavily reliant on the dlc to get decent content story and world building wise cause unlike the base game arc the kitakami arc did way better at character development and foreshadowing its story than base game and had a conclusion that rapped up that arc very well for what it was and while the world itself was better built then the generic base game it still doesn’t compare to gen 5 and gen 6 stunning looking world

The battling system in the newer mainline games is good and more competitively variable in the meta game though I do wish they didn’t remove some moves like pursuit though I do have some concerns and fears regarding the next generation and them changing the play style and the playstyle that we all know and love only being stuck in champions

I do feel gen 9 gym fights become trivial with exp candies and forced exp share I feel like exp share should be a togglble option or a held item as for the fights themselves I think they would really benefit from a less naturally op player I also feel like they needed the trainer sight line things cause you can go throughout the whole game without battling a route trainer in that whole game and still have an easy time getting through just cause of exp share and exp candies

The towns in gen 9 have nothing to do in them even the big town of mesagoza only has the school

Shiny hunting in gen 9 also feels less rewarding as over world shinies make them easier to find and therefore lose value a shiny caterpie from firered would be absolutely hype just finding it finding a shiny espurr in sv wouldn’t feel that way also they take out shiny resetting in all forms shiny locking all gift pokemon and legendaries even returning ones like I can get a shiny latias in gen 8 yet I can’t get one in gen 9 that just doesn’t make sense I can understand why they want to shiny lock box arts from the current generation even though I’m not a big fan of the decision but I feel shiny locking legendaries that have been available to be shiny in the past without being a gift feels like it’s crossing the line a bit too much I also feel like a lot of the new shiny designs aren’t that good

Gen 9 has some good music though that’s true for all entries in the pokemon games

the dex I feel is on the weaker side with a good chunk of it feels like they should have just been reginal variants including toedscool, wiglett, sinistcha, and basically all the paradox line which is around 1/5 of the dex and an additional 8 being evolution of previous generation of pokemon (though those ones I probably say are better on the dex side) I feel like a few of gen 9 evo lines are lacking design wise (flamigo, bramblin, flittle, tarontula, maushold, rellor) most falling in the it’s fine category with very few that stick out
