How to get started?

I've been a typical Pokémon fan up until champions got released and now I'm trying to get into the competitive side. What do I need to do to qualify for my first VGC tournament? Thanks for the help

in order to qualify you need to the local tournaments to get points and with those pointss if you ah e enough pokemon contacts you to compete

There is an app that tells you where local events are that I think gives you points to be able to participate in events

I've never done it though so I'm not 100% sure

Maybe start with learning base stats and move effects as well as type advantage

I know how to play, It's the competitive side I dont know about. Everything I've come across talks about the TGC events and i'm getting nowhere? I appreciate the help but I need to hear from someone that actually competes.
