How common are ‘single-type’ decks in PTCGL ?
Hi all,
Have redownloaded the game after a years break, played about 40-50 casual + ranked matches this week, but still a relative newbie.
Seems more than half my matches face a ‘single type’ deck*. A year ago the ‘multi-Chaizard’ deck seemed very common. Now I’ve faced only-fire, only-water, only-electric, only-leaf (Venusaurs!), and only-Pyschic decks in plus 50% of my matches this week.
Usually they’re very effective (only 1 energy type needed, can use type-specific energy cards, etc), so I can guess it’s pretty effective in terms of setup and win rates.
As someone who prefers decks with multiple (3-4) different types (e.g. water, electric and fighting) - this ‘single-type’ trend feels surprising to me.
Question - how common are ‘single type’ decks now in Pokémon TCG Live? And do they have a clear advantage / meta advantage over multi-type decks? Any feedback, insight, suggestions would be welcomed.
* PS. Single type decks maybe also have a small exception, like some Meowths - so perhaps ‘almost single type’ decks is a more accurate term

People have diferent play styles, most go single energy cause its better for beginers.

There have always been single type and multi type top decks, but in general I would say multi type decks are more common at the top… mostly because there's always that one Pokemon that fits so well into many decks, regardless of the deck's main type.
Currently the meta leans a bit more toward single type decks indeed... but in my case the one deck I play the most is actually a multi type that includes multi energies too.
But tbh the current meta is really poor and not ideal for someone who likes diversity.
