You don't have to read all of it. There's a lot of online resources on Daggerheart 101 and how to make a character. The only thing you swap out from a traditional Daggerheart character is the ancestry part(ex: Human, Elf etc.) for Pokemon species(ex: Vulpix), their ability(ex: Flash Fire) and what two moves you'd like to start with(generally two moves that your chosen Pokemon will know at a low level. For Vulpix that's likely be Ember + Tail Whip).

The ability is adapted for Daggerheart along with the two Pokemon moves. Everything else with respect to Daggerheart characters is identical to what is posted online.

To give you an example, here is mine:

    Name: Katara

    Species: Alolan Vulpix

    Ability: Snow Warning

    Class: Sorceress

    Subclass: Elemental Origin(Water)

    Class item: Family Heirloom(Necklace)

    Community: Seaborne(Southern Water Tribe)

    Experiences: Affable + Healer

Domain cards: Rune Ward + Unleash Chaos

    Weapon: Dualstaff

    Armor: Gambeson

    Traits: S(-1), A(0), F(+1), I(+2), P(+1) and K(0)

Here's what @clasingla came up with with respect to Ancestry perks:

Snow Warning - once per long rest you may create a snowstorm within close range

Snow bundle - gain +2 evasion while in snowy area

    Pokemon moves:

Powder Snow - Ice deals 1d4 mag damage roll a d10 on a 10 your opponent is also frozen

Tail Whip - temporarily lowers your opponents damage threshold by 1

They're still a work in progress (notably they need a combat range) and not set in stone but it'll be something like that. Also if you look at my character sheet on page 1 in the Character Sheet thread, you'll see all the various class and subclass abilities that I have. As for Domain cards, these are mine:

    Rune Ward

    Level 1 Arcana Spell

    Recall cost: 0

You have a deeply personal trinket that can be infused with protective magic and held as a ward by you or an ally. Describe what it is and why it’s important to you. The ward’s holder can spend a Hope to reduce incoming damage by 1d8. If the Ward Die result is 8, the ward’s power ends after it reduces damage this turn. It can be recharged for free on your next rest.

    Unleash Chaos

    Level 1 Arcana Spell

    Recall cost: 1

At the beginning of a session, place a number of tokens equal to your Spellcast trait on this card. Make a Spellcast Roll against a target within Far range and spend any number of tokens to channel raw energy from within yourself to unleash against them. On a success, roll a number of d10s equal to the tokens you spent and deal that much magic damage to the target. Mark a Stress to replenish this card with tokens (up to your Spellcast trait). At the end of each session, clear all unspent tokens.

The class you pick will determine the Domains available to you. Within these domains, you'll pick spells and abilities to utilize. If you got any questions, feel free to ask. I know it can be a bit overwhelming but it's not that difficult to make a character. Just a bit time consuming.

@Momoscarada Step by step process for character creation.

Step 1: Pick a Pokemon species. Can be anything that isn't a Legendary, Mythical, Paradox or Ultra-Beast. Your choice starts in their Basic form (ex: Eevee if you pick Jolteon).

Step 2: Pick a Pokemon Ability. Pokemon can have up to 3 Abilities so choose one from those they can have. We adapt it for Daggerheart.

Step 3: Pick two Pokemon moves. These can be anything your chosen species can know at a low level and are typically 60 base power or less. Again we adapt them for Daggerheart.

Step 4: Pick a Class. Daggerheart has 9 Classes in Bard, Druid, Guardian, Ranger, Rogue, Seraph, Sorcerer, Warrior and Wizard. They have since added more but we play with the base classes.

Step 5: Pick a Subclass. Each class has two Subclass options. Pick the one you like the most.

Step 6: Pick a Community. This is basically your origin or where your character comes from but your Community pick may yield you a useful perk.

Step 7: Pick your Experiences. Basically words or phrases you can call upon in a pinch when making an action or reaction roll. They can be anything pretty much. Feel free to look at the various examples on existing characters.

Step 8: Pick your Domain cards. Your chosen class has access to two Domains. Each Domain has a plethora of spells and abilities your class can utilize but you may only pick two level 1 cards at character creation. They can be from either Domain so pick what you like the most.

Step 9: Assign Character Traits. Each character assigns the following values of +2, +1, +1, +0, +0 and -1 to the following 6 Traits: Strength, Agility, Finesse, Instinct, Presence, and Knowledge.

Step 10: Pick your Equipment. Your character can equip a 2-Handed Weapon or two 1-handed items of your choice. 1-handed options include dual wielding or Sword and Board(aka Shield). You'll also want to pick Armor unless you chose the Bare Bones Domain card on the Valor Domain. Also pick a Potion(can be Health or Stamina). Oh and your Class Item. Each Class has two options but the choice(afaik) shouldn't have much impact.

You can find recommended character options online.
