What’s a mechanic you didn’t appreciate until a replay?
First time through, it didn’t stand out. Maybe you ignored it completely. Then on a replay, something clicked and you realized it actually adds a lot to the experience.
What’s a mechanic that didn’t land at first, but made way more sense the second time around?

Terastillization. I was like, 'dude, what the heck is this', and just used the same type tera on everything to get the boost. It took a year before I decided, "hey, I can change types, this is actually pretty helpful!"

THIS!!! i wasn’t a fan of the mechanic when it was first revealed because of the hats it made every PKMN wear, but it is one of the funnest and most versatile mechanics to use and isn’t only limited to a few PKMN

Weather for me. Cannot stress how much this can help certain Pokémon while also hurting them at the same time if you can deny it. It makes Pokémon like Golduck(w/ Cloud Nine) insanely useful when you can deny Drought Ninetales the means to use Solar Beam in 1-turn or Pokémon with Swift Swim the means to outspeed you because you denied them the Weather effects via Cloud Nine or outright changing the Weather to something else. Weather has changed a lot since Generation 5 when Weather setters like Tyranitar could keep it going indefinitely. There's also Ice Spinner destroying Terrain effects(which is another mechanic that doesn't get much attention these days). An honorable mention to the Generation 5 Pledge moves that don't get utilized much given that it requires doubles/triples to really be viable and even then its difficult to pull off. Yet if you can, the field effects from such a combo can take people by surprise.
