Feedback & Suggestions: Technical Optimizations for Android with PowerVR GPUs and Lower-End Devices
Hello, this is my first time writing a post in the community and this may sound off-topic and less Pokemon related, this more about the gameplay optimization of the game. I am writing today to share some feedback regarding game performance. Despite playing on the lowest recommended graphics and frame rate settings, I consistently experience stuttering and freezes during crucial moments like teamfights. I currently play on an Oppo A15s (MediaTek P35, PowerVR GE8320, 4GB RAM), and while this device meets the official recommended specs, the gameplay often feels unstable especially during huge teamfight, it always affect my gameplay which makes me frustrated and upset.
I’ve noticed that devices using PowerVR GPUs seem to struggle more than those with Mali or Adreno hardware. Since PowerVR is very common in the mobile market, I’d love to see more focus on optimizing for this specific architecture. Most performance issues on these chips come from high CPU overhead and bandwidth limits, and there are several ways the development team could potentially address this to make the game smoother for everyone.
One area that could see improvement is how the game handles rendering. By finding ways to group similar on-screen elements and textures together, the game could significantly reduce the strain on the processor. Simple changes, like maybe adding “no shadows” to greatly enhance the performance of the game instead still having small shadows or ambient occlusion on very low to low settings, or allowing the game to run at a slightly lower internal resolution, would make a world of difference for mid-to-low-end devices without affecting the core gameplay. Oh, also maybe add some "network accelerator" or "network boost" to enhance internet speed connection. Maybe even add the option to select servers so that people can optimally play the game based on their location.
Memory management is also key for stability. Utilizing hardware-specific texture compression that PowerVR chips are designed for would reduce the amount of data the phone has to move around during intense fights. Additionally, simplifying the 3D models for Pokémon that are far away from the camera or off-screen could free up valuable RAM, preventing those sudden freezes we often see when many players gather in one spot.
The reason I wrote this post is because the game feels less optimized on some devices, but other MOBA games even fully support low end phones. Plus, I’ve heard that the game experienced Memory Leak issues. That’s why I wanted the developers to improve the game on the technical side.
Thank you for your time and understanding, I hope the developers take this into consideration in the future updates.
