Anyone for Pokémon Monopoly?

So the other day I was at Target and went into their Toys + Boardgames section and noticed that they had a Gen 9 Edition of Pokemon Monopoly and a thought crossed my mind as to whether or not to start one here on the Forum for "fun". The premise of the game is that your token would be the Pokémon of your choice, or ideally a Gen 9 starter(or one that appears in Gen 9). The various "properties" are all based on Pokémon that the 8 Gym Leaders possess so for the Brown Monopoly(aka the first one), they'd be Pokémon that Katy uses like Nymble and Teddiursa. For the Cyan group, it'd be Pokémon that Brassius uses or Petilil, Smoliv and Sudowoodo. Purple, Orange, Red, Yellow, Green and Blue would all have a similar theme for the other 5 Gym Leaders. The Electric Company + Water Works would be the Box Legendaries(Electric = Moraidon, Water = Koraidon) because I am that diabolical while the Railroads would be the 4-colors of Squawkabilly(Green, Blue, Yellow, White in that order) that pertain to getting around fast. Income Tax and Luxury Tax would involve battling Nemona and Team Star but instead of battling you pay out cash like in Monopoly(because you auto-lose). Jail is Officer Jenny and Free Parking is w/e(feel free to chime in) while GO is… hmm up for suggestions on that square too lol.

The only thing I'd have to iron out(because I don't own one) would be the Trainer + Professor cards that take the place of Community Chest + Chance. I'd have to dig out the standard Monopoly and "modify" them somehow along with adding the special doubles rules that Pokémon variants have had in the past(which admittedly aren't that bad…). Houses are PokeMarts while Hotels are Pokémon Centers :D

Since I'd be the host, I'd effectively moderate or take account of all actions while players are responsible for knowing their Cash-on-hand, Property/Pokemon and other assets. Rolls are carried out by online Dice calculators, although you can sort of know where you'll land if you know your Monopoly board well enough.

If anyone is interested, chime in. I'm sure that with 4-5 players, the friendship ruining nature of Monopoly ought to sow chaos the likes of which that not even a Time Paradox can solve.

I mean, I'm interested but I don't own that IRL, so I don't know how I'd be able to see what's happening

Also, if I can join even with the lack of it, can I be either Quaquaval or Meowscarada?

Ahh well I don't but I noticed the Gen 9 version in a store the other day. The board is different than previous iterations with Lapras for the Railroads(I prefer Squawkabilly) and they have Challenge(Chance) and Adventure(Community Chest) cards instead of Trainer/Professor cards from back in the day. Properties are locations in the Gen 9 version(which honestly… I prefer the oldschool Gym Leader Pokémon… Misty's was pretty good with Staryu, Starmie and Horsea(might make it Gyarados if I was to re-do Kanto version again). Looking at images of the board, I don't see Utility properties… which means they may have removed those in lieu of extra Adventure/Challenge spots and there's no Income/Luxury Tax spots(which the Kanto version had Team Rocket and Blue if memory serves).

If we were to do a game here on the boards… I'd have Gym Leader Pokemon for property, box legendaries for the utilities and Nemona + Team Star for the Tax spots. I'd have to re-do the Chance/Community chest cards though from the base models that I have(I have US + UK versions).

Neither do I(with respect to Pokemon editions) but I do own the standard and British variant. It's essentially Monopoly but the differences are the Properties(which I noted with one exception: Railroads are the 4 Pokeballs or Poke Ball, Great Ball, Ultra Ball and Master Ball. I just like the 4 types of Squawkabilly instead), Houses + Hotels(which I noted), Chance/Community chest cards(which I noted) and Tokens(which I noted). Additionally, they have unique Doubles rules such that if you roll snakeyes that'd permit the player to either roll again(after paying rent or buying the property they landed on) or "Teleport" to any square on the board(if they pass GO, they get $200). Double 2's permits them to get $200 from Bank, Double 3's would get $50 from every player, Double 4's they can draw a Professor card(Chance card), Double 5's can draw a Trainer card(Community Chest) and Double 6's can permit a player to challenge another player for the right to own one of their properties(cannot break up a Monopoly though. Highest roll wins). You use a doubles power, your turn ends. If we were to do something like this, because I don't own it myself, I'd have to change or update the Chance + Community Chest cards.

Yeah agreed. Traditional Monopoly has 10 squares to a side while Paldea version only has 8 since they removed Income/Luxury Tax along with the Utilities and they removed 1 Property from Cyan, Purple, Orange, Red, Yellow and Green Monopolies(why I have no idea). The objective, from the looks of it, isn't necessarily to own a Monopoly but rather to Explore and catch Pokémon from each Color area. The first person to do so wins the game. While that's a new take, it's not really "Monopoly". The Battle mechanic looks interesting though. Should try and see if I can't find the rule set for it.
