Based solely on their base form designs and not evolutions:

    1. Kanto
    2. Alola
    3. Unova
    4. Johto
    5. Sinnoh
    6. Paldea
    7. Kalos
    8. Hoenn
    9. Galar

Perhaps it is nostalgia or my own biases, but I think they really nailed it with the original starter trio. They are all simple but very appealing designs that clearly communicate the concepts.

I think it is too early to fairly rank the gen 10 starters yet. Recency bias is definitely a thing. I'd probably put them in the middle of the pack. I don't hate them, I am not in love with them. Ask me in a month or after we learn more about them.

I'd have to think about it. Sinnoh probably becomes number 2 and Unova and Alola move further down. Johto probably becomes number 3.

Take it you’re not fond of the Gen 10 starters 😃

    1. Kalos (Fennekin!!!)
    2. Alola (I'm biased because it was the first game I got to choose a starter, but their designs are really good)
    3. Galar (Sobble and Scorbunny are cool)
    4. Hoenn (it feels like it's the starter trio and I love Mudkip. It might actually be 3rd)
    5. Unova (Snivy is my favourite but the others are cool too)
    6. Paldea (I like them)
    7. Winds and Waves (I like them)
    8. Johto (I like them)
    9. Kanto (I don't feel any way towards them. They're OK)
    10. Sinnoh (they exist. Turtwig is good, the rest just exist)

    • Here are my detailed rankings of all the starter trios:
    • 1. Hoenn. They're absolute peak, the only one I never really loved is Marshtomp. The final evolutions are perfect, and the base forms are outstanding (especially Mudkip)
    • 2. Paldea. I know people hate them but I think they're great designs. If the final stages were handled a little better I think more people would actually like them. The base forms are all around perfect, and I think Quaxly gets hated on way too much.
    • 3. Kalos. Apart from Delphox and Quilladin I actually really like them. I love the whole Greninja line though. Frogadier is my favorite middle evo ever.
    • 4. Alola. They're solid designs all around, but let down by Incineroar. I've had enough of normal animals turning into straight up people. The Rowlet line is peak tho.
    • 5. Sinnoh. They're just… decent. Nothing wrong with them, but nothing outstanding either. I will say I love Piplup tho.
    • 6. Galar. Amazing base forms, solid middle forms, but the final forms are just too unsettlingly human. Raboot is a Pokemon I really like, it's just a shame it evolves into some Nesquik mascot.
    • 7. Kanto. I don't love them, but I don't hate them either. The base forms just look a bit too similar, and the amazing middle stages just don't get enough love. Charizard on the other hand gets too much love.

    • 8. Unova. They made a bipedal design work (Dewott) and then knocked it on all fours and made it far worse. And then they did the opposite with Tepig. Serperior is solid tho.
    • 9. Winds and Waves. Pombon and Browt are way too simple and plain, and Gecqua's neck vs head proportions lowkey creep me out. However, they are kinda charming.
    • 10. Johto. The Cyndaquil line is okay, the Chikorita line is too plain, and I straigt up dislike the Totodile line.

    You made @UnovanZorua mad

(Also I love how you called chikorita basic while the sceptile line is even more basic)
